Background:The Il17rd gene encodes a transmembrane protein of the IL-17 receptor family. IL-17RD, originally termed similar expression to fibroblast growth factor (fgf) genes (Sef) as it belonged to the FGF synexpression group in zebrafish development, is the only orphan receptor without any known ligand within the IL-17R family. IL-17RD is a transmembrane protein shown to inhibit fibroblast growth factor signaling in developmental and cancer contexts, however its role as a tumor suppressor remains to be fully elucidated. The full-length IL-17 RD isoform is expressed in most adult tissues and during embryonic development.
